Teams and Bensham Community Care Receives £25,000 in Funding to Help Older People Stay Connected

We are thrilled to announce our charity has received a £25,000 grant to help us to continue to provide groups and activities to ensure older people are connected and engaged with their communities.

The funds, awarded by the Kellet fund via the Community Foundation for Tyne and Wear and Northumberland will be used towards our core costs for the next 12 months to deliver our three lunch clubs and two men’s groups, held every week at our centre on Bolam Street, Teams. Each lunch club and men’s group offers a freshly cooked, two course meal, transport from home and back again, wellbeing-enhancing activities and most importantly, the opportunity to create lasting friendships. Each group is key in reducing social isolation among older adults.

Teams and Bensham Community Care has been running since 1990 and has a wonderful team of 9 staff and 7 volunteers, and we support around 100 people every year. Our centre, group attendees and the staff and volunteers create an ideal environment where people can feel welcome and included from their very first visit and enjoy a great day out each week. People who already attend often share how their confidence and positivity have grown by building a wonderful social network. Additionally, our accessible minibus service ensures that even those who cannot travel independently can easily attend with transportation to and from their homes.

"We are incredibly grateful for this generous grant from the Kellet fund via the Community Foundation for Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. This funding will enable us continue to make a significant impact in Gateshead, helping people aged 65 years and over to stay connected, engaged, and supported in their communities." (Teams and Bensham Community Care)
